Dave Standing - RIP
Sep 4th, 2008 at 7:38pm

James Holgate has just let me know the sad news that Dave Standing died on Tuesday night. He had health problems over the last few years, but as James is in Holland at the moment I won't have any more details until he returns.

Anyone who met Dave will confirm that he never had a bad word to say about anyone, never looked on anything but the bright side and enjoyed his fishing around the world.

Pikers who have been around a while will remember the unique, entertaining and unforgettable, talks that Dave gave to PAC regions, and at the conference, over the years.

He managed to catch some biggies along the way - when he wasn't setting fire to his bivvy or being chased by bears!

The piking world will be a duller place without him.

Sad news indeed... Well remember Dave from the good old days and will always  remember him  as the laugh a minute character he was..  Entertained both him and Geoff Parkinson many years ago on Loch Achray, the patter was sterling even if the piking was a little less so...sincere condolences to his family and friends...

Sincere condolences to family and friends, top man who will be sadly missed. I remember well a talk Dave and Lumby did for our Nottingham region in the 80's, tight lines in that pond in the sky Dave.

What a shock and what a shame! I was so sad to hear the news that Dave had passed away. I met Dave lots of times and had some enjoyable chats with him, found him very attentative and also found a lovely easy going fella. RIP Dave.
