Nottingham...Trent Chub?
Feb 16th, 2010 at 10:33pm

Went out on the Trent Nr. Nottingham, fishing breadflake on light ledger/quivertip set-up. Never had a knock, despite all the articles in Improve Your Course Fishing etc.. on how good roving tactics are with bread as bait..? Anybody else fishing on the Trent?  Saw a Piker Lure fishing from a boat & that was it! Nobody else for miles, why is nobody fishing the Trent these days? Huh

90% of all my chub fishing is on the bread flake over mash. Although I've never fished the Trent It's never let me down on any other river including the Severn, Teme, Warwickshire Avon, Lugg, Wye, Herefordshire Arrow, Hampshire Avon and after this weekend hopefully the Kennet.
Huh

Perhaps it was just a matter of 'location'?

the trent chub have gone missing on lots of the stretches.

On the middle trent, chub used to be a banker when barbeling, then 2 seasons ago, they stopped featuring and turned from nuisance fish to bonus fish!

Dunno why but some think it was down to the bad floods a few years back.

The enbamkemet stretch in city centre is supposed to be full of roach though

Its rare to see anybody fishing the Victoria Embankment these days, apart from the Cormorants...... Sad
Go near Beeston or Gunthorpe Weir and you see people after Barbel & thats about it Huh

Haven't fished it for about 10 years, but can confirm that then the embankment was full of roach and skimmers - big shoals of proper slabs too.

There are still loads of roach in the Trent, but not everywhere - if you can find them, you can get a bite-a-trot all day long.   Wink

Interesting advice, Mick. Sounds well worth a try.. Mate Darren tells me to try a Mepps etc.. too.
Did you fish with Alan Dudhill yesterday? I had to work in the morning so it was a no show... Roll Eyes He said he would go on an EDF pond as the Trent was churning & high. Wink

I used to fish it a lot in the 70's (showing my age a bit) near the Wilford Toll Bridge mainly, used to catch loads of Gudgeon Roll Eyes, Roach, Perch sometimes. Chub used to fall to Lobworms I suppose plenty will be fishing on June 16th but it soon seems to die off
